Backpack Ministry to Northside Elementary Children
What is a backpack ministry? It provides a backpack of food each Friday for the weekend to those children served by the school’s “free or reduced breakfast and lunch program.” Often these children go hungry over the weekends or times of school breaks. Currently, our church is serving 25 students each week at a cost of approximately $10-15 per week per child. This is a mission project right here in our community that involves Midway area children who are hungry.
The Youth Group currently bag up the food packages each Wednesday evening for delivery to the school on Friday. Food is purchased through God’s Pantry when available and we take a special offering each Sunday that communion is served to support this ministry.
