Love in Many Languages: Sharing the Good News with Everyone
Children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited to join Ms. Andrea to learn about Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) field personnel who are helping people hear and understand the gospel for the first time in their own languages. Kids will hear the stories of Kirk and Suzie in Southeast Asia, Keith Homes and Mary Van Rheenen in the Netherlands, Mohammed and Sara on the East Coast of the U.S. (working with Persian World Outreach), and Lita and Rick Sampe in Freemont, California (helping internationals who immigrate from the Middle East). Each night, children will participate in several Interest Areas, including "Using the Bible," "Meeting the Missionary," "Playing the Games," "Experiencing the Culture," "Tasting the Food," and "Enjoying the Arts." We'll act out the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000, use the Internet to learn about the places where the field personnel serve, play Joz bazi (Afghanistan hopscotch), make and eat Pannekoeken and Romany Creams, and make Batik t-shirts. The main activities will take place from 6:45-7:30. Children whose parents are a part of other activities lasting until 8:00 may stay until 8:00 for supplemental activities.

7:00pm: Family Financial Planning (Neil Craig)

You may have read or listened to Dave Ramsey teach budgeting, debt reduction and beginning savings toward retirement. Neil Craig will be picking up where Dave leaves off on Wednesday nights beginning Sept 1. Neil will be leading a series of financial discussions on everything you'd like to know about investing, the stock market, 401k-IRA-ROTH and insurances. Neil is a financial professional with 12 years industry experience in banking, insurance and investing and is happy to share his knowledge with us on the best ways to prepare for and live well in retirement. Everyone is welcome, and the best part is the most complex financial concepts are presented in easy to understand and applicable methods, who would think that a financial statement could be fun?

7:00pm: The Gospel According to Harry Potter

Starting August 11 at 7:00, join us in Room 101 for a journey that will start this fall and end next spring. For the past few years, the Harry Potter book series (7 books) has captivated audiences of all ages across the globe. Likewise, these books have lead to 8 major motion pictures; the last two will be released in November of 2010 and July 15, 2011. In the next 10 months, this small group will be watching all the movies (and you are welcome to read/re-read the books) while discussing the spiritual and theological implications of the literature focused around the book The Gospel According to Harry Potter. If you are a fan of Harry Potter and are interested in bridging the Christian faith and popular culture, please join us. Hope to see you there!

7:00pm: Study of MBC's Governing Document (Joy Arnold)

7:00pm: Visitation Group (Bill McGregor)

A new Wednesday night visitation class will be starting with the next semester at Midway Baptist Church. The class will meet each Wednesday evening after the dinner to visit shut-ins around the Midway area. Each class member will pack up a box dinner from the Wed. night meal for the people they plan to visit that evening. After a short prayer at 7:00 we will take a dinner to each shut-in and, if invited, we will stay for a short visit. I am hoping that we will have enough interest in the class for each visit to be in pairs. We will meet back at the church at about 7:50 to review our visits and pray for any needs communicated to us. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. ~ Galatians 6:10
