Tom Allen
Senior Pastor
Midway Baptist Church is excited to introduce our new pastor, Tom Allen, who began his ministry with us in June.
Tom grew up on a family farm near Shellman, Ga. At age 11 he received Christ at First Baptist Church there, where his father served as a deacon. In 1987 he went to Georgia Tech on a full Presidential Scholarship, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science with highest honors.
In 1990 his life took a turn after a summer as a youth minister. He committed his life to ministry, graduating from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in 1994. In his first semester Greek class, he met Susan Quisenberry, a Lexington native and graduate of Tates Creek and WKU who had also committed her life to ministry. In 1993 the couple wed.
After seminary Tom served as an associate pastor at Trinity Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky., where he served for a time as acting head of staff. He spent the next 5 years as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon, Ga., near Vidalia. Under his leadership the church grew, built new buildings, and launched a new worship service. Most recently, Tom served as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Corbin, Ky. Tom is presently in the project phase of a Doctor of Ministry degree in missional church leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
Tom describes himself as "a people person who regards every believer as gifted for ministry." He is active in his community and has written Bible study materials for Smyth Helwys and an article on preaching for FaithWorks magazine. The Allens have two sons, Luke, age 8, and Seth, age 6. They reside in Midway. Tom and his family are excited to be starting their new ministry here with us at Midway Baptist Church.
