Mission Midway 2008

A ONE-DAY Local Outreach

Mission Midway 2008 is a one-day mission outreach to our local community on Saturday, October 4. Our theme is "Making Tracks in Midway."

Click the graphic above to view the introductory video we showed in church on August 24.

What's Involved?

Most ministries and mission trips demand considerable commitment. MM'08 asks for only a few hours of your time. There will be a variety of projects for everyone from preschoolers to senior adults.

You'll start off the morning with a brief gathering, then go out with your group to tackle the project you signed up for. Most groups will be done in time for lunch at the church. Others will eat lunch on site. All groups should be done by mid-afternoon. We'll celebrate MM'08 at worship the next day.

Sign up begins September 7 and continues till the day of the project. Free T-shirts to those who sign up by September 14. You do not have to be a member of MBC—or any church, for that matter—to be involved.

What Projects Will Be Offered?

Patience. We're hard at work on that. But here's what we have in mind (project leaders in parentheses):

  • Gifts and goodies for first responders (Iraline)
  • Free yard work and winterization for the elderly (Paul, David, Chad)
  • Refurbish computers to give away with free instruction (Wes M.)
  • Free blood-pressure checks (Carrie)
  • Lap blankets/walker bags for nursing home residents (June)
  • Recognition of Midway merchants (Natalie, Susan)
  • Children's project (done at the church) (Rhonda, Melinda)

The big day will also require Water tower in downtown Midway a number of support teams:

  • Prayer (Melanie)
  • Publicity (Hope)
  • Food (Betty, Alice)
  • Office support (Joy)
  • Video/photography (Zach, Don)

Where'd You Get the Idea?

From David Crocker, founder of Operation Inasmuch.

Another video (a much better one, frankly) is available here, or check out the OIAM website, (operationinasmuch.com).

Many other churches, including Calvary Baptist in Lexington (pastored by former MBC pastor Bob Baker), have done this sort of thing.

Questions? Count you in, you say?

Got questions? Want to beat the sign-up rush? Willing to serve on the leadership team? See deacon Joy Arnold, or give us a call.
