Inaugural “Back to School” Family Block Party

 At the Walter-Bradley Park (next to Northside Elementary)

On August 5^th, we will have our inaugural “Back to School” Family Block Party. The intent of this event is to provide a family-friendly social event for anyone and everyone in the Midway area, so please invite your friends and neighbors. We want to provide everyone with one last “Hurrah!” before school starts that week. Also, this is a great opportunity for everyone to see Midway Baptist Church active in our community; hopefully, we will meet some new people that are interested in getting to know us more.

 Starting at 5:00, at Walter-Bradley Park, we will be grilling out and having fun with our Midway friends and neighbors. The church will provide the meat and drinks; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish and/or dessert.  Don’t forget to bring a lawn chairs or blankets for your family along with balls, Frisbees, kites or anything else you have for such an event.

 Here is a list of all the planned activities: two Bouncy Blowups for kids, snow cone and popcorn machines, four carnival games and table top games, face painting, balloon toss and live music from our very own Praise Band!

You will not want to miss this event! Please come and bring a friend!

3^rd Annual Midway Master Chief Grill-off and Homemade Pie/Cake Bake

To Benefit the MBC Food Pantry

 On July 1^st, we will have our annual Midway Master Chief Grill-Off and Pie/Cake Bake. This year, we are adding a “Pie/Cake Bake” to the competition. The grill-off teams of two cooks will begin early in the afternoon, but the feast will start at 5:00 in the Ministry Center. Drinks and meat are provided and prepared by the competitors; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish. We are also asking participants to prepare and enter their favorite homemade pie/cake in a friendly pie/cake bake competition. The winners of the grill-off and pie/cake bake will be determined by a team of judges.

The first year’s “Master Chiefs” were David Hird and Mike Drury.

The second year this event was rained out.

We will be accepting donations: All proceeds will go toward the Midway Baptist Food Pantry.

 On June 3^rd, we will have our annual MBC Corn Hole Tournament. As usual, we will begin eating. The church will provide the meat and drinks; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish and/or dessert. There will also be face painting and ice cream! If you are interested in participating in the tournament, please sign up at the meal, which starts at 5:00. We will start tossing around 6:00.

 The tournament will consistent of a best two out of three first round, and then the following rounds, which will depend on the number of teams, will be single elimination. This will insure that every team will play at least three games. After the first rounds, there should be empty corn hole boards for eliminated teams for non-competitive fun. The tournament will conclude with the Championship game!

This event is one week before Vacation Bible School, so we will have a pre-registration table for VBS. Please invite a friend to the tournament and to pre-register their kids for VBS!

The first year’s winners were David McCoun and Chad Royalty.

The second year’s winners were Darin Hensley and Justin Ball.

In the event of rain: we will have the meal in the Ministry Center followed by the “Children’s Movie and Parent Game Night.”

If you have a corn hole set (or know someone who does), please bring it. We will need all the sets we can get! If you have any questions, please see Cody Davidson.

At the Midway Softball field

1, 2, 3 strikes you’re out! Calling all home run kings and queens! On May 23^rd, come out to the Midway softball field and enjoy some “fun in the sun” and good ole home run hitting. We will begin eating hamburgers and hotdogs at 6:00. The church will provide the meat and drinks; we are asking everyone to bring a side dish and/or dessert. After we eat, we will have our home run derby starting around 6:45. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chairs or blankets for your family.

Everyone is welcome to enter the Home Run Derby. The Derby will consist of two rounds. Everyone will participate in the first round. Each batter will get 10 swings. The batter is awarded 1 point for every homerun. When you are not batting other participants will play in the outfield to catch and return the balls as they are hit. After the first round, the top three hitters will compete in a second round for the championship. Good Luck!!

 Did you know that your taste buds change every seven years? Coincidently, it has been over seven years since we had our last Midway Baptist Supper Club; it’s high time we served it up again to our Midway Baptist family!

What is it?

Midway Baptist Supper Club is a way for adults and families to sit down together for a series of meals and fellowship with one another. Our Wednesday Fellowship Meal will be wrapping up in May and taking the summer off. This is the perfect time to continue to feed our bodies and souls in a smaller and personal setting.

How does this work?

During the month of May, you can sign up the adult member(s) of your family to participate in the Supper Club. At the end of the month, small groups will be created by grouping three families to form individual “Tables”. Each Table will work together to schedule three dates over the summer months to host a meal in each of their homes and share with the two other families at their Table.

Should I sign up?

If you want to enjoy a good meal and spend time with some wonderful people from your church, then the answer is “yes”. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know others in the Midway Baptist family and we hope that you will choose to participate!  You can sign up by emailing Mary in the church office at office@midwaybc.net or on a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.  If you have questions, please see Natalie Wyatt or Cody Davidson.

Another exercise was to focus on the physical, individual, associational and economic gifts we have as a church.  This exercise pointed us to new ways to use the gifts we already process to reach people in new ways.   We hope to take these thoughts, communicate them to the church and try to prayerfully discern where the Lord is leading.

Thanks to all who participated!  Our best auction yet.  There was $5,520.00 raised to help offset the costs to MFuge and Crosspoint Camps this summer for our youth and children.

On June 24, 2012 we will celebrate the 140th anniversary of the founding of Midway Baptist Church. MBC was founded on June 27, 1872.

The day will feature a fellowship meal, former pastors, musicians and staff as our guests and a look at our past, while focusing on our future.
